Opioid Epidemic

Dr. Vijay Amarendran, Medical Director of Outpatient Services at Acadia Hospital, visited the club on Monday, August 1, 2016. Dr. Amarendran shared information about the neurobiology of addiction, the history of medication-assisted treatment, opioid use patterns, and the treatment options for opioid addiction including the medications methadone and Suboxone.
In November 2015, Dr. Amarendran gave a presentation as part of Acadia's Open Mind Series titled, "The Facts About Methadone and Suboxone."

In appreciation for his time, Dr. Amarendran received a certificate from club President Tina Chapman acknowledging that the Waterville Rotary Club will make a gift to the Rotary Foundation to vaccinate 10 children against polio.
